Genuine African Art and collectors items

African art takes many forms varying greatly from country to country as well as between tribes and villages.

Often we look upon everyday African objects - tools, furniture, ornaments, jewelry - those that form a useful purpose in their customary context - and place an artistic value to these objects.

Indeed many African cultures express their artistic talent in the very objects they make use of everyday - an axe to chop wood, a stool to rest in the shade of a tree, a smoking pipe, a fly whisk, a wooden bed!

Yet many forms of African art are produced for specific ceremonial occasions and take on specific meanings within that culture and within that ceremonial occasion. Various pieces such as masks, chairs, stools, axes, pots and more are produced in relation to specific ceremonies or spiritual ancestors.

Often the more commercial African curios are reproductions of these genuine pieces. While these cheap reproductions serve a superficial purpose, it is the genuine pieces of African art, culture and expression that hold their intrinsic value over time.

Over the past 20 years we have acquired a personal collection of high quality African Art and artifacts, mostly from within Zambia with particular focus on those tribes and cultures of Western Zambia. However pieces from neighboring countries also do appear here, some from the Congo and others from Angola, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Tanzania.
