Founded in 1991, Tribal Textiles employs over 150 staff in the remote town of Mfuwe which lies in the heart of the Luangwa Valley - one of Africa's last remaining wildlife edens. Styles, designs and colors originate from the wilderness surroundings - the animals, the local art and the native people producing the products. Each piece is individually hand painted onto 100 pecent cotton after which it is laid out in the African sun to dry. Hereafter a baking process in industrial ovens occurs to make the items colorfast, then washed once again, given another tanning session and then checked for faults. Without a doubt, these are unique pieces and designs and all items are one of a kind due to this intensive hands on process. All pieces may hold slightly differing brush strokes depending upon the artist. In addition, due to the rural process of production some items may have small blemishes which makes them unique. |
